Our thoughts: are they allies or enemies?
We are what we think. The day I understood the power of this affirmation, a great fundamental change in my life began. As Mahatma Gandhi advised us: “Watch your thoughts, they become words. Watch your words, they become actions. Watch your actions, they become habits. Watch your habits, they become character. Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.”.
Science confirms it. A study by researchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that negative thoughts are highly linked to a poor immune system. They organized a group of volunteers between 57 and 60 years old, to which they asked a series of questions to detect, thanks to a brain scan if the most active areas were those related to negative or positive thoughts. Then they gave everyone a flu shot.
Richard Davidson, who was in charge of the experiment, said that those who had greater brain activity in the area of negative thoughts suffered the worst immune reactions, compared to those who had much more optimistic thoughts during their initial survey.
Among other things, they also concluded that those who feel bad about reaching old age allow the process to accelerate. Also, positive thoughts help to have a longer life, even more than the fact of not smoking or exercising.
With this in mind, we bet strongly for the second edition of Escuela de Emociones in Miami, an event in which, through much practice, visualizations, and exercises, we seek answers to the typical doubts about how thoughts are related to our emotions. It’s a perfect dance that we can do in a subtle and harmonious way with excellent results.
I love this anonymous metaphor: our mind is like a bus, in which we are the driver and we decide who we pay attention, if those passengers that are annoying and negative, who see everything wrong, or to our intuition and criteria to choose what we decide to think.
In your hands rest the responsibility of being the conductor of your mind! Do not let that anything or anyone take away that privilege! Remember: The quality of your thoughts determines the quality of your life.
